> Fierce-eyed Maḻavar warriors, having struck with victorious swords
> and driven away foes with their bows, rounded up the yielding herds;
> they sped their arrows far and drove them through the harsh land;
> then, having slaughtered fat animals and sprinkled blood
> before the thick-trunked neem tree where a deity dwells,
> they feasted on meat stew on the wide, bright stone.
> On the black-trunked red silk-cotton trees where male elephants rubbed their backs,
> round white seeds scatter like hailstones.
> Without saying 'The wilderness is too vast,'
> just as dancers journeyed desiring the well-shod, red feet
> of the Vāṉavaṉ of mighty armies, horses, and fine warfare—
> what if we go too, O confidante,
> to the land where our lover went crossing the mountains,
> where strong-tempered male elephants, having grazed on night millet-fields,
> unable to move about during the blazing sun
> due to the fierce thunderous crack of sling-stones that shatter mature bamboos,
> tremble in fear at the cool, huge rock slabs?
