> Wearing tinkling anklets filled with pebbles, and a garland of water lilies,
> with forearms brightened by carved conch bangles,
> and ornament-decked bamboo-like shoulders, father of Aiyai,
> most generous Tittaṉ who brings rain-like wealth,
> in his Uṟantai filled with heaps of paddy,
> —in the flooding Kāvērī where no wading pole finds bottom,
> with the woman you desire, who wears exquisite, bright ornaments,
> embracing a white bamboo raft, as an elephant seeks a pool in the Pūḻi land,
> so that the flower garland on your handsome, raised chest was crushed,
> yesterday you played in the freshets!
> Coming today, you utter soft deceitful lies, saying,
> “O mother of my son, of unblemished chastity,
> with beauty-spots budding upon your shapely breasts!”
> Do not mock my aging! Let that be!
> Like the town of Kaḻāar of Matti with many spears,
> where the sharp-toothed otter, having fed on vāḷai fish
> after tangling the choice vines of hollow-stemmed vaḷḷai
> in the watery fields of bright lotus blossoms,
> crouches in the ancient thicket of thorny rattan canes,
> my youth has departed and is exceedingly ancient.
> What sweetness can your false words bring to me now?
