> Because the sun with manifold rays, which brought the bright day,
> burns so that the yield of the fertile, great mountain is ruined,
> the green-eyed elephant, having stirred the fearful pool in the large mountain side
> where waterfalls have ceased, and found no yield of water,
> eats moss and shrinks to one side with his cow exhausted by hunger;
> though he departed out of desire for rare wealth
> in the sun-glowing wide expanse where the joints of bamboos split,
> he is possessed of great, immense love, O confidante!
> Even if he were to obtain the Kuṭanāṭu realm,
> protected by Kuṭṭuvaṉ with tightly bound drums,
> where settlements rich in lush fields know no hunger,
> and if curved-horned buffaloes loathe the lotus,
> they dwell in the rich shade of the crooked, mature jackfruit tree,
> beyond the narrow wilderness of tall-trunked wild jackfruit trees
> where the fierce-eyed Maḻavar rise for cattle-lifting
> by burial cairns raised of gravel where black-hued antelopes rest—
> he will not stay, forgetting your exquisite beauty, O you of gentle, noble gaze!
