> The gods and the Asuras engaged in battle did not achieve victory for a long time. All this \[world\] was among the Asuras. Then there was only a single syllable among the gods: speech itself. Agni said: “I have indeed seen how we shall conquer this.” “Tell it, then,” they said. He said: “Having joined all this together by means of the syllable, let us yoke \[them\] yoke to yoke.” Because he said, “Having joined all this together by means of the syllable, let us yoke \[them\] yoke to yoke,” that is the nature of the ājyadhur verses. By means of the syllable, they joined all this together and yoked yoke to yoke. They conquered them. He who knows this conquers rivalry, the hateful rival. If he should sing the other yokes differently, he should sing the ājyadhur verses differently. He who, knowing this, when two armies have clashed, should say to the opposing host: “I join you together by means of the syllable,” he indeed conquers that host. And furthermore, whatever host he is in who knows thus, that host indeed conquers. Those gods said: “Let us distribute these.” Therefore \[the place\] is named Mount Kāṣṭha.
