> For verse is the Rathantara; sāman is the Bṛhat.
> And if he should chant stobhas, he should chant only eight syllables.
> And then he closes his eyes;
> he should look around toward 'svardṛś' so that the eye is not torn out.
> If he were to perform the Pratihāra as 'īśānam indra', the Ruler would be prone to afflict the cattle of the sacrificer.
> When, however, he performs the Pratihāra as 'śānam indra', the Ruler does not afflict the cattle of the sacrificer; the offspring thrive in peace.
> At each Pratihāra, the Udgātṛ should say, 'iḷā id'.
> Cattle indeed are the receptacle; the Rathantara is the foundation.
> He thus firmly establishes these cattle in their proper abode.
> He should say 'nasthuṣaḥ'.
> If he were to say 'tasthuṣaḥ', his prosperity would stand still.
> Now when he says 'nasthuṣaḥ', his prosperity does not stand still, and his cattle move according to their own range.
> He should differentiate between the Bṛhat and the Rathantara.
> If he were not to differentiate between the Bṛhat and the Rathantara, just as two great trees colliding might break their branches apart, so they two would crush the offspring and cattle.
> 'Ho vā hā' indeed is the Bṛhat; 'o vā hā' is the Rathantara.
> He thus differentiates between the Bṛhat and the Rathantara; he parts from evil who knows thus.
