> One who desires refuge should use the Nārmedha.
> Nṛmedha and Suvrata were two brothers.
> They both set up fires.
> Nṛmedha chanted as Udgātṛ for Suvrata.
> That \[sacrifice\] had been chanted with the Yajñāyajñīya alone.
> Then they approached him:
> 'Indeed, the two sons of the Udgātṛ killed the son of the sacrificer, Antakadhṛti, son of Suvrata, namely Nakir and Śakapūta!'
> Touching his two arms, he said: 'Brahmins, this is your sacrifice; sacrifice with it for whatever you desire! By this one, indeed, I shall drive that away; I shall avenge that.'
> Wrapping him around the udumbara post, he set him on fire with hemp stalks.
> He desired: 'May I go up from here; may I find a path, a refuge; may this fire not burn me!'
> He saw this sāman.
> With it he praised.
> Then indeed he found a path, a refuge; the fire did not burn him.
> It even burned away the rope with which he had been bound.
> Therefore this is the sāman that finds a path, finds refuge.
> Indeed, he found a path, a refuge.
> He who knows thus finds a path, a refuge.
> And because Nṛmedha saw it, it is named Nārmedha.
