> They indeed undertake a prolonged sacrificial session who offer the fire-offering. For this session lasts until old age and death; for from it one is released either by old age or by death. Regarding this they say: ‘If between the fires of this performer of a prolonged session, while he is offering the fire-offering, a yoked \[chariot\] should pass through or \[people\] should move together, what is the rite there, what is the expiation?’ The wheel is a thunderbolt. A thunderbolt follows along the fires of him between which a yoked \[chariot\] passes or \[people\] move together. He should indeed make an atonement; he should even sacrifice with an iṣṭi. But he should not regard it in that way. He who establishes the fires spreads along these worlds. Of him, this world becomes the Gārhapatya, the intermediate world the Anvāhāryapacana, that yonder world the Āhavanīya. At will, both the yoked and the unyoked and birds move in these worlds. He should know: ‘Even if a whole village passed between my fires, I have no affliction, no harm whatever.’ But there are three unpleasing domestic animals: the boar, the ram, the dog. ‘If one of them should move between \[the fires\], what is the rite there, what is the expiation?’
