> Being created, they ran away from him.
> He wished to enclose them with the Agniṣṭoma;
> they ran beyond it.
> He wished to enclose them with the Ukthya;
> they ran beyond it.
> He wished to enclose them with the Ṣoḍaśin;
> they ran beyond that too.
> He went round and round them with the rounds.
> Because he went round and round them with the rounds, that is the roundness of the rounds.
> He encompassed them with the Āśvina rite.
> When they had been encompassed, just as small fish might slip through the mesh of a net, so indeed whatever cattle were small slipped through.
> He desired: "Having reached them, may I hold them fast in myself."
> He saw these four chants beyond the night.
> He chanted with them.
> Having reached them with them, he held them fast in himself.
> Because having reached (āptvā) \[them\] he held them fast, therefore it is the Aptoryāma.
> Or because, reaching them, as it were, through the portion of soma, he extends \[the sacrifice\], therefore it is the Aptoryāma.
