> One who desires brilliance \[or\] desires spiritual luster should sacrifice with the Agniṣṭut of nine verses; one who desires vital power, with one of fifteen; one who desires cattle, one who desires procreation, with one of seventeen; one who desires a firm footing, with one of twenty-one; one who desires might, with one of twenty-seven; one who desires prosperity, with one of thirty-three.
> Now about this they say: 'All this is just talk; one should sacrifice with only this four-stoma Agniṣṭoma.'
> This indeed is the ninefold, this the fifteenfold, this the seventeenfold, this the twenty-onefold.
> Fire is attached to these breaths.
> He who, being learned, does not shine forth, he should sacrifice with this.
> As a golden ornament covered with tarnish, so indeed is he who, being learned, does not shine forth.
> Indeed, they cast him into fire whom they cause to sacrifice with the Agniṣṭut.
> Just as, having cast into the fire an ornament covered with tarnish, one would strike off all its tarnish with an iron mallet, even so they strike off all his evil.
> He, with evil struck away, becomes brilliant \[and\] endowed with spiritual luster.
> Then also they say: 'One in whose possession, though he has cattle, cattle do not thrive, he should sacrifice with this.'
> As an old dried-up thicket, so indeed is he in whose possession, though he has cattle, cattle do not thrive.
> His Agniṣṭoma-sāman is upon the Revatī verses.
> The waters indeed are the Revatī verses.
> Indeed, they cast him into fire whom they cause to sacrifice with the Agniṣṭut.
