> When Death and Prajāpati sacrificed, they vied with each other with their sacrifices.
> Now at that time there were weapons of the sacrifice, just as these weapons are nowadays at the seasonal sacrifices.
> Then what is chanted at the sacrifice, what is recited, what is performed, that was the army of Prajāpati.
> Now what is sung on the vīṇā, what is danced, what is done at will, that was the army of Death.
> The armies of the two of them were equal: as great as that of the one was, so great was that of the other.
> Without either gaining the victory, the two of them wandered for a long time indeed, for many years.
> Prajāpati desired: "May I conquer Death."
> In the sacrifice he saw this numeric correspondence, this computation.
> By means of it he conquered Death.
> When he was defeated, the king \[Soma\] dried up.
> Falling westward, he entered the wife's hall.
> Therefore, \[one says\] to the wives: "Hey! He who was pressed with the numeric correspondence was pressed!" For he was not pressed \[by Death\]; regarding him,
> those which were his chants and recitations were just those very things which are sung on the vīṇā, which are danced, which are done at will —
