> Prajāpati created creatures.
> By means of this very Viśvajit, he created this universe.
> In that there are these varied opening verses, therefore this universe of beings is of varied forms.
> This is indeed the yoking of the pṛṣṭhas.
> With a \[verse\] containing the word 'upa' the Rathantara is yoked;
> the Vairāja with \[a verse\] addressed to Sarasvat, the Mahānāmnīs with one addressed to Sarasvatī, the Vairūpa with one addressed to Bṛhaspati, the Revatīs with one addressed to Savitṛ, the Bṛhat with one addressed to Agni Pavamāna.
> In that there are these varied opening verses, the pṛṣṭhas are thereby yoked at the morning pressing.
> They mount upon them at the midday pressing.
> They say in this regard: 'Those who begin with verses containing pavamāna are deprived of their breaths.'
> In that this opening verse is addressed to Vāyu, and Vāyu is breath, they prosper through their breaths.
