> Just as bulls or wild asses would stand here enraged, so it is when these pṛṣṭhas are in the middle. Because the Śyaita and Naudhasa are on both sides—the Naudhasa is brahman—having pacified them in front with brahman, they make them friendly from behind with the Śyaita. Therefore, the Naudhasa should be in front, the Śyaita behind. Regarding this they say: 'Since the pṛṣṭhas have identical finales, by what means are they made non-redundant?' By this narrative: 'The Vairāja and the Mahānāmnī verses, and the Vairūpa and the Revatī verses \[are non-redundant\].' Moreover, \[it is\] also by the fact that they have their finales in the middle. In it are three seventeen-versed \[stomas\]. Those make fifty-one verses for chanting. That is the morning pressing of the Go \[sacrifice\]. One hundred and eighty-nine \[verses\] belong to the night; that is the night of the Jyotiṣṭoma. Thus this productive pair is made. He who knows thus is propagated through a pair. Both kinds of verses for chanting amount to two hundred and forty. That is the Virāj. Food is the Virāj. Thus he firmly establishes himself at the end of the sacrifice in the Virāj, in proper food.
