> Regarding this, they say: through the stomas he attains the pṛṣṭhya six-day period; through the concordance, the chandomas; through the night, the tenth day. Whatever one wins by means of a twelve-day rite accompanied by sacrificial gifts, he who knows thus wins. Now, there is this thousandth \[cow\]. If he should give it, he would be emptied out, and the embryos would dry up; if he should not give it, his thousand given would be deficient. He should not give a part and what is to be given. That is a pair. After that, he procreates. Regarding this, they say: thus, indeed, it becomes ungiven, or indeed he surrenders just a part. Then the thousand would follow that part, or that part would follow the thousand; that is an uncertainty. Having given it, he should buy it back with an ordinary cow. Regarding this, they also say: thus, indeed, it becomes given. A cow is the other, a cow is the other; he should buy it back with wool thread from a sheep, for as much as he thinks it is worth. Now, wool thread is just a trifling thing compared to a cow. His thousand becomes given, and he is not emptied out himself. Just as one would enclose a pen with twigs or with a rope, in the very same way he holds on to the cattle, so that they do not wander off. His property is not scattered, who knows thus.
