> Twice indeed is the sacrificer born: once he is born from a pair, once from the sacrifice. That which is born from a pair is born for this world; then that which is born from the sacrifice is born for that world: he is born for the world of the Gandharvas, he is born for the world of the gods, he is born for the heavenly world. The sacrificer is the sacrifice; King Soma is the sacrifice. In that they press King Soma with the stones in the havirdhāna shed, they thereby make the sacrificer semen. The Udgātṛ is Prajāpati. He is Tvaṣṭṛ; he is the shedder of semen, he is the transformer of forms. When he sings the semen-bearing \[verse\] in the Bahiṣpavamāna, he thereby pours the sacrificer as semen. If he should sing a verse without a sāman, only bone would be born, not flesh. If he should sing a sāman without a verse, only flesh would be born, not bone. He sings the verse smeared with the sāman; therefore, a person is born smeared with hair, skin, and flesh. On it he should not utter the sound hiṃ. If he should utter the sound hiṃ, he would sever the semen with the vajra of the sound hiṃ. For even he who were to separate it with a hair would sever it. He should sing it meditating. If he were to sing without meditating, seedless embryos would be born. Seedless indeed are the embryos born in the course of a bad Udgātṛ.
