> en: “For you two are the priests of the sacrifice”—this is addressed to Indra and Agni. Here he chooses Indra and Agni for the priestly office; having handed over the sacrifice to Indra and Agni, he is released. His \[sacrifice\] is not diminished; it remains as before. Indra and Agni perform the priesthood onward from here. “This intoxicating mead men have pressed out with stones for you; O Indra and Agni, take heed of it”—this is the form of the Śakvarī and Revatī verses. “Smiting, chariot-borne, Vṛtra-slaying, unconquered, O Indra and Agni, take heed of it”—this contains the slaying of Vṛtra, for ultimate victory. By this six-day rite the gods conquered in the beginning. In that this Ājya \[laud\] containing the slaying of Vṛtra is performed at the end, it is for victory, for the slaying of the rival. He conquers, he slays his hostile rival, who knows this. They place the refrain at the end. The sixth day is sap, to prevent its overflowing. Just as one would plaster a dam for waters, exactly so do they place the refrain at the end to prevent the sap of it from overflowing. The stoma is the thirty-three-fold. All deities are thirty-three. They go firmly establishing themselves in all deities.

> en: “For Indra, O drop, accompanied by the Maruts…”—these are the Gāyatrī verses of the midday Pavamāna laud, the form of the Bṛhat. This day belongs to the Bṛhat. “You, the supporter, the wise poets adorn…”—thus they contain \[the word\] ‘around’ (pari), the form of the end, for this day is the end. “Your sap let Mitra, let Aryaman…”—for this day is sap. The sap that overflowed from the fifth day, that became this day. It is this very sap. “Let Varuṇa drink, O sage, let the Maruts drink of the purifying \[Soma\]!”—thus they contain \[the mention of\] the Maruts. Accompanied by the Maruts is the form of midday. They do not depart from that form of midday.
