> Now the Svāśirām-arka: food indeed is the arka, \[used\] for obtaining food. The apsarases named Svāśiras were these very plants. They desired, 'May we become many, may we reproduce, may we pervade this world.' They saw this sāman. They praised with it. Thereupon they became many, they reproduced, they pervaded this world. Thus this whole world is covered with plants, even the mountains. That is a procreative sāman. He multiplies with offspring and cattle, he pervades this world, who knows thus. And because the apsarases Svāśiras saw \[it\], therefore it is named Svāśirām-arka. 'Toward glory, great renown'—because there is \[the word\] 'toward' (abhi), it is the characteristic form of the Rathantara; this day has the Rathantara nature. 'Quickening thoughts for the winning of cattle'—these \[verses\] have \[words meaning\] 'cattle' (gomatīḥ) and 'possessing animals' (paśumatīḥ), \[used\] for obtaining cattle; for the chandomas are cattle.

> On them \[is chanted\] the Aiṣira, composed by the ṛṣi Vāyu. Vāyu indeed is vigorous (iṣira). Whatever of the performers of a sacrificial session is lost during the session, that Vāyu heals for them. Vāyu is breath; through breath alone he cures that for them. By means of this, they perform an expiation, a healing. 'Breath, child of the great ones'—with this, they attain the very form of cattle; for a young one (śiśu) belongs to cattle.

> 'Toward us, best winner of booty'—because there is \[the word\] 'toward' (abhi), it is the characteristic form of the Rathantara; this day has the Rathantara nature. 'Flowing with wealth, eagerly sought by hundreds, / O Soma, bearing thousands, mighty in glory, enduring widely'—what has 'hundreds' and has 'thousands', that is the characteristic form of the chandomas; for the chandomas are cattle. 'This sounding Soma has flowed into the sheep's \[filter\], dripping exhilaration'—thus they are possessed of exhilaration. Just in proper sequence they place sap and exhilaration in the third pressing. 'May we belong to this wealth of yours, rich one, rich one, much sought, / may we be closest, longing, in your favor, O uncheckable one'—these \[verses\] have \[words meaning\] 'cattle' (gomatīḥ) and 'possessing animals' (paśumatīḥ), \[used\] for obtaining cattle; for the chandomas are cattle. On them \[is sung\] the Gaurīvīta; its ritual explanation has been stated.
