> —for this day is magnified (vṛddha). "When the Kaṇvas made Indra the accomplisher of the sacrifice by their stomas" \[RV 8.6.3\]—for accomplishment. "Filling the offspring of the immortal" \[RV 8.6.2\]—thus it contains a form of the root jan- ("to be born"). From the ninth day they bring forth the tenth day; for the tenth day is brought forth from the ninth day. What on the second day belongs to Indra and Agni, that \[here\] is an Aindrāgna hymn based on the Bṛhat; for this day is connected to the Bṛhat. The ājya chants are unified (samayī). These two—the six-day pṛṣṭha rite and the Chandomas—are like two different villages. Just as two different villages, having allied their friends together, might dwell in safety, such is it that the ājya chants are unified. Some indeed make them disunified. Therefore they should be made unified. The stoma is forty-eightfold. The Jagatī has forty-eight syllables; the Jagatī is cattle; the Chandomas are cattle. They proceed establishing themselves in cattle, in the Jagatī.

> "Of the purifying one, slaying..." \[RV 9.61.20\]—this is the form of the Bṛhat; "brilliant with golden hues..." \[RV 9.61.21\]—this is for the Jagatī. "The purifying one, the best charioteer, with splendid paths, most splendidly praised, brilliant with golden hues, accompanied by the Marut-troop" \[RV 9.61.22\]—thus they contain \[the word\] marutvat ("accompanied by the Maruts"). Belonging to the Maruts is the form of the midday pressing; they do not depart from the form of the midday pressing. "O purifying one, reach forth..." \[RV 9.61.23\]—thus they approach the form of the All-Gods, for this day belongs to the All-Gods. These \[verses\] contain forms of the root han- ("to slay"). The ninth day is the end: having reached the end, with these they strike away all evil.
