> Now \[the sāman\] with the nidhana "idāvasu", with a nidhana outside, is connected with the Bṛhat.
> Therefore it is performed on the Bṛhat-day.
> There was indeed a ṛṣi named Asur, who was without cattle.
> He desired: "May I obtain cattle."
> He saw this sāman.
> He praised with it.
> He approached this very nidhana: "This is wealth" (idaṃ vasu).
> That is why \[the sāman\] with the nidhana "idāvasu" is called Idāvasunidhana.
> Wealth is indeed cattle.
> Then indeed he obtained cattle.
> That is a sāman that brings cattle.
> He obtains cattle, he becomes rich in cattle who knows thus.
> It has a four-syllable nidhana; cattle are four-footed.
> The chandomas are cattle; \[it is\] for the attainment of cattle.

> Now the Kāśīta.
> Consumption indeed seized Kaśīti Saubhara at a sacrificial session.
> He desired: "May I strike away consumption."
> He saw this sāman.
> He praised with it:
> "May the wind blow medicine to our heart, bringing well-being and joy;
> may he lengthen our life-spans.
> What treasure of immortality is placed yonder in your house, O Wind,
> give us from that to live.
> And you, O Wind, are our father, and brother, and our friend;
> make us live."
> Thus the Wind made medicine for him.
> They perform this medicine as an expiation.
> And it is a granter of desires; for he desired that desire.
> That desire was fulfilled for him.
> Whatever desire one has when one praises with this sāman, that desire is fulfilled for him.
> They conclude with an iḷā turned backward, \[thinking:\] "May we not slip beyond, going away from the meters."
> Iḷā is cattle.
> The chandomas are cattle; \[it is\] for the attainment of cattle.
> And because Kaśīti Saubhara saw it, therefore it is called Kāśīta.
