> This deity does not take away the spiritual luster, faculty, vital power, or renown of him who undergoes consecration.
> That is indeed the propping up of the uktha.
> Those rays of his that are directed downward—by them these worlds that are below him are propped up, as well as whatever bears breath and has a body.
> And those that are directed upward—by them those worlds of his that are beyond him are propped up, as well as whatever is unembodied and without body.
> Now, because this deity stands firmly propping between both the gods and the asuras, therefore it is a prop.
> Truly, propped up, he should prop himself.
> And if anyone should seek to dispute with him who is propped, he should say to him: 'To the propped deity I cut you off; into this distress you will fall.'
> He falls into that divine distress.
> Those rays that are directed downward are indeed subject to death, having food.
> And those that are upward are immortal worlds.
> Those rays that are directed downward are called 'orayas', just as a reed might be hollow, or downward-directed.
> And those that are upward are called 'uparīyāṃsas' \[the higher ones\].
> Just as an elephant, taking up with its trunk, might set \[something\] upon its back, even so this deity, taking up the one who knows thus by the broad rays, sets him down upon the higher ones.
> His is that world which is beyond this one.
