35.p1

In his own abode they thus slay all evil of the sacrificer.

35.p2

"May he be a bull, a bull,"

35.p3

thus it contains [the word] "bull" (vṛṣan).

35.p4

Endowed with "bull" is indeed the form of the triṣṭubh;

35.p5

this day belongs to the triṣṭubh.

35.p6

"Indra, made for giving, most mighty, placed in strength,"

35.p8

By means of this third three-day rite the gods went upward to the heavenly world.

35.p9

Not being held together, it wavered for them.

35.p10

In it they placed strength, with [the words]: "Indra, made for giving, most mighty, placed in strength."

35.208

"Collected like the thunderbolt with song"—with this they gathered it together. "Endowed with strength, not falling away"—with this they made it strong. Having prepared it, they went to the heavenly world with it. In that this ājya [shastra] occurs, it is for the attainment of the heavenly world. That which is addressed to Indra and Agni on the first day is connected with the rathantara; for this day is connected with the rathantara. The ājya [shastra]s are equal in melody. These two, namely the six-day pṛṣṭhya rite and the chandomas, are like two different villages. Just as two different villages, having allied their friends together, might dwell in security, so it is in that the ājyas have the same melody. Some make them of different melodies; therefore they should be made of the same melody. The stoma is forty-four-fold. The triṣṭubh indeed has forty-four syllables; the triṣṭubh is faculty and vital power; they proceed firmly established in faculty and vital power.

35.208.p1

"O Adhvaryu, with the stones pressed,"
—so they proceed with the form of the Triṣṭubh;
this day is connected with the Triṣṭubh.
"Bring soma to the strainer,
purify it for Indra to drink!
With that stalk of yours, O Drop,"
—thus [the verses] contain the word "stalk" (andhas); food indeed is stalk, for the attainment of food.
"The gods drank of the sweet,
the Maruts of the purifying [soma],"
—thus they contain the word "Marut";
connected with the Maruts indeed is the form of midday;
thus they do not depart from the form of midday.
"The highest milk of heaven,"
—for the highest three-day period is performed, namely the Chandomas.
