Kauṣītaki (Śāṅkhāyana) Brāhmaṇa 7.10

He inverts them:

those that are invitatory verses in the introductory [sacrifice], he makes offering verses in the concluding [sacrifice];

those that are offering verses, [he makes] invitatory verses.

He who sets out with the introductory [sacrifice] seems to depart from this world.

In that he inverts [them],

thereby he is firmly established in this world,

in a firm foundation, without falling away.

Moreover, the meters are indeed the vital breaths.

Thereby he interlinks the vital breaths in himself, so that they will not be torn away.

Therefore, indeed, these vital breaths, flowing in different directions, blown forth, do not blow out.

“Thee, of brightest renown” [and] “What is most conveyant, that to Agni”—these are the two Anuṣṭubh samyājyā offering verses.

The introductory sacrifice is indeed the extension of the sacrifice.

Speech is the Anuṣṭubh.

By speech the sacrifice is extended.

He does not transpose these two.

The two samyājyā offering verses are indeed a foundation.

[Thinking:] “Lest I interweave the two foundations.”
