15.3.1
Now they say: "Since the pragātha of the invocation of Indra and that to Brahmaṇaspati are neither stotriya nor anurūpa, then why are they recited taking [them] repeatedly, forming a Kakubh?"
15.3.2
Taking [verses] repeatedly, indeed, the Sāman singers chant at the Pavamāna.
15.3.3
The form of that is thereby produced.
15.3.4
"Agni, the leader, like Bhaga of the settlements," and "Thou, Soma, with the seasons, hast become wise," are the two [verses] to Agni and Soma.
15.3.5
Agni and Soma were inside Vṛtra.
15.3.6
Indra was not able to hurl his thunderbolt at him.
15.3.7
They stepped forth to this share,
15.3.8
and that one which belongs to them at the full moon.
15.3.9
Therefore this Marutvatīya recitation is indeed Vṛtra-slaying.
15.3.10
For by this Indra slew Vṛtra.
15.3.11
"The bountiful Maruts cause the waters to swell," is the Pinvanty-apīyā verse.
15.3.12
The waters are indeed the Pinvanty-apīyā.
15.3.13
Now, when Vṛtra was slain, the waters flowed forth.
15.3.14
Because they swelled forth (prāpinvan), therefore [the verse is called] Pinvanty-apīyā.
15.3.15
It is in the Jagatī [metre].
15.3.16
Through it, all the pressings become endowed with the Jagatī.
15.3.17
With 'Born fierce for strength, swift...' [RV 10.73.1], the Marutvatīya [hymn] has [the word] 'born' (jātavat).
15.3.18
Indra was indeed born at that moment when he slew Vṛtra.
15.3.19
And he who sacrifices is indeed born at that moment.
15.3.20
At its first [verse], the adhvaryu responds once with [a formula] containing [the word] 'intoxicating' (madvat).
15.3.21
For here Indra became intoxicated for the first time.
