16.2.1

He recites verses to Indra and the Ṛbhus for those [cups] being drawn up at the third pressing.

16.2.2

When the Ṛbhus attained the love of Prajāpati,

16.2.3

then Indra admitted them to a share in the drinking of soma.

16.2.4

Therefore, they do not chant on verses addressed to the Ṛbhus,

16.2.5

yet they call it the Ārbhava Pavamāna.

16.2.6

With a verse addressed to Indra and the Ṛbhus, he offers for the cups set out at the third pressing.

16.2.7

Thereby he makes Indra share in half of the pressing.

16.2.8

[He offers] with a Jagatī; for the third pressing belongs to the Jagatī.

16.2.9

[He offers] with a verse containing the word mad; for the third pressing contains the word mad.

16.2.10

He utters the secondary vaṣaṭ-call only for the appeasement of the oblations,

16.2.11

for the firm establishing of the oblations.

16.2.12

Then the hotrakas offer together; the ritual explanation of them has been stated.

16.2.13

Then the iḍā [is eaten], then the hotṛ's cup; the ritual explanation of it has been stated.

16.2.14

At the third pressing, they cast in the supplementary offerings.

16.2.15

Thereby they please the fathers.

16.2.16

Then they proceed with the draught for Savitṛ.

16.2.17

In the beginning, they offered this at the morning pressing.

16.2.18

The creatures were not born.

16.2.19

They [offered] it at the midday pressing;

16.2.20

even then, they [were] not [born].

16.2.21

They offered it here at the third pressing;

16.2.22

thereupon creatures were born.

16.2.23

Therefore Savitṛ is fixed at the third pressing.

16.2.24

Moreover, Savitṛ is one of the Ādityas;

16.2.25

the third pressing belongs to the Ādityas.

16.2.26

Therefore they sacrifice to him at the third pressing.

16.2.27

Having recited a Triṣṭubh as the invitatory verse of the draught for Savitṛ, he offers with a Jagatī.

16.2.28

The Triṣṭubh is strength and virility;

16.2.29

cattle are the Jagatī.

16.2.30

Thereby he firmly establishes [the sacrificer] in strength, virility, and in the end in cattle.

16.2.31

For it, he does not utter the secondary vaṣaṭ-call.

16.2.32

The draught for Savitṛ is breath; the secondary vaṣaṭ-call is the conclusion.

16.2.33

[He does so thinking:] 'Lest I bring breath to a conclusion before its time.'

16.2.34

For this breath is, as it were, joined.

16.2.35

The offering verse contains the word mad; for the third pressing contains the word mad.
