16.5.1
As to this, they say: "Why are the priesthood and the nobility shifting, while the peasantry is unshifting?"
16.5.2
The morning pressing is the priesthood;
16.5.3
the midday pressing is the nobility;
16.5.4
the third pressing is the peasantry.
16.5.5
Now, because they conclude [the recitation] just as it occurs at the morning and midday pressings,
16.5.6
therefore Brahmin subjects live without fixity,
16.5.7
and Kṣatriyas live without fixity.
16.5.8
And because the concluding verse of the third pressing is unshifting,
16.5.9
therefore the peasantry is unshifting.
16.5.10
He says: "Offer of the ghee; offer of the Soma."
16.5.11
The sacrifice is extended indeed by these two: by ghee and by Soma.
16.5.12
He pleases those two here,
16.5.13
[thinking:] "Pleased, may they bear the sacrifice."
16.5.14
He offers of the ghee in a whisper;
16.5.15
ghee is the emission of semen;
16.5.16
in secret indeed is semen emitted.
16.5.17
Now, that he offers of the Soma aloud:
16.5.18
Soma is the moon;
16.5.19
manifest indeed is the moon.
16.5.20
Regarding it, they say: 'One should not offer after it.'
16.5.21
"so these [fathers] look down hither from over there."
16.5.22
However, it is established that he should offer around [it].
16.5.23
Ghee is the world of the gods;
16.5.24
Soma is the world of the fathers.
16.5.25
Thus they step up to the world of the gods from the world of the fathers.
16.5.26
Moreover, in that they proceed with the Saumya [caru], they indeed propitiate the fathers.
16.5.27
Moreover, they say: 'Here the upasads are concluded.'
16.5.28
For at the upasads one offers in return to Agni, Soma, and Viṣṇu.
16.5.29
Here [he offers to] Agni, Soma, and Viṣṇu.
16.5.30
They bring this Saumya [caru] to the sadas.
16.5.31
Having received it, the hotṛ puts it down near himself.
16.5.32
Then, having looked at himself in its ghee, he touches the ghee with two fingers.
16.5.33
With the words, 'You are the protector of the eye; protect my eye,' he should wipe his two eyes.
16.5.34
Thereby he indeed protects his eye.
16.5.35
He hands it to the udgātṛs.
