3.12.1

He sacrifices to Soma first;

3.12.2

thereby he pours seed.

3.12.3

To Tvaṣṭṛ second;

3.12.4

Tvaṣṭṛ indeed transforms the poured seed.

3.12.5

Then the wives;

3.12.6

for these are the Patnīsamyājas.

3.12.7

Now, as to why he sacrifices to Agni Gṛhapati at the end;

3.12.8

this [Agni Gṛhapati] is the Sviṣṭakṛt of the wives;

3.12.9

therefore he sacrifices to him at the end.

3.12.10

Now, as to his touching water, the explanation thereof has been stated.

3.12.11

Now, when he mutters a verse, he makes a prayer for well-being.

3.12.12

Now, as to his invoking the iḍā, cleansing himself, and reciting the Śaṃyorvāka, the explanation thereof has been stated.

3.12.13

Now, as to his making the wife recite over the veda;

3.12.14

the veda is male,

3.12.15

the wife is female.

3.12.16

Thus he places a pair in the wives.

3.12.17

Therefore the wife puts blades of grass from the veda between her thighs.

3.12.18

Now when he strews the veda,

3.12.19

thereby his New and Full Moon sacrifices become continuous.

3.12.20

And also thereby his agnihotra has its barhis strewn.

3.12.21

Now when he attends upon the remainder of the veda,

3.12.22

he thereby speaks a benediction.

3.12.23

Now when he attends upon the Āhavanīya,

3.12.24

having pleased [the gods], he thereby speaks his purpose finally among the gods.

3.12.25

Now when he touches water,

3.12.26

water is indeed peace and medicine.

3.12.27

Peace and medicine are thus made at the end of the sacrifice, at the end of the sacrifice.
