30.4.1

He hands it over to the Brāhmaṇācchaṃsin.

30.4.2

He receives him when born with the Sukīrti [hymn] as a womb.

30.4.3

Then he recites this Vṛṣākapi [hymn] recited in Paṅktis. / The Paṅkti has five feet.

30.4.5

Fivefold is the sacrifice, for obtaining the sacrifice.

30.4.6

He inserts the nyūṅkha.

30.4.7

Food is the nyūṅkha.

30.4.8

Thus as soon as he is born, he places food and nourishment in him.

30.4.9

Then he recites this Kuntāpa [hymn] according to the metres,

30.4.10

for obtaining all the metres:

30.4.11

the Nārāśaṃsīs, the Raibhīs, the Kāravyās, the Indra-gāthās, the Bhūtecchads, the Pārikṣitīs, and the Etaśapralāpa.

30.4.12

Etaśa the sage indeed saw the lifespan of the sacrifice.

30.4.13

He said to his sons: / 'Dear sons, I have seen the lifespan of the sacrifice; I shall declare it.

30.4.15

Do not think me mad.'

30.4.16

They said, 'So be it.'

30.4.17

He then declared it.

30.4.18

His eldest son crawled up to him and seized his mouth, [saying]:

30.4.19

'Our father has gone mad!'

30.4.20

He said to him:

30.4.21

'Perish! Fie on you, wretch!

30.4.22

I shall make your offspring the worst!

30.4.23

If you, wretch, had not stopped my mouth, / I would have made cattle live a hundred years, and man live a thousand years!'

30.4.25

Therefore the Aitaśāyanas, though of noble birth, are the worst among the Bhṛgus, cursed by their father, by their own deity, by their own Prajāpati.
