8.10.1
He should recite without taking breath, for the continuity of the vital breaths.
8.10.2
For these vital breaths are continuous, as it were.
8.10.3
He recites each one three times.
8.10.4
For these worlds are three.
8.10.5
He thereby wins these worlds.
8.10.6
Recited together, they amount to nine.
8.10.7
The seasons are six, and these worlds are three;
8.10.8
to that very [number] they amount.
8.10.9
He should not utter that sacrificial formula which is in the kindling verses;
8.10.10
for the sacrificial formulas are omitted.
8.10.11
It would be redundant if he were to utter this formula.
8.10.12
"He should not even invoke [the gods]," some say;
8.10.13
"for what deity could he win by invoking them in succession?"
8.10.14
He should invoke with the verses themselves:
8.10.15
"Bring Agni hither, bring Soma hither, bring Viṣṇu hither."
8.10.16
He sacrifices to those three deities.
8.10.17
Three, indeed, are these worlds.
8.10.18
He thereby makes these worlds full of light.
