Ma is the earth: it extends prosperity; ya is water: \[it brings\] growth; ra is fire: \[it brings\] death; / sa is wind: journeying far to a foreign land; ta is space: empty is the result; / ja is the sun: it produces great fear; bha is the moon: spotless fame; / na is heaven and gives happiness: the wise declare this to be the result of the metrical triplets.
Vernacular: The deity of the ma-triplet is the earth, it extends fortune; the deity of the ya-triplet is water, it causes growth; the deity of the ra-triplet is fire, it gives death; the deity of the sa-triplet is wind, it causes travel to a foreign land; the deity of the ta-triplet is space, its result is null; the deity of the ja-triplet is the sun, it gives disease; the deity of the bha-triplet is the moon, it gives spotless fear \[or fame\]; the deity of the na-triplet is heaven, it gives happiness: in this manner the learned have described the results of the metrical triplets, as will be known from the following diagram.
