‘O Agni, you are the expiation; you are the expiation of the gods. Whatever body of hers is destructive to her husband, strike that away from her, svāhā! O Vāyu, you are the expiation; you are the expiation of the gods. Whatever body of hers is destructive to sons, strike that away from her, svāhā! O Sūrya, you are the expiation; you are the expiation of the gods. Whatever body of hers is destructive to cattle, strike that away from her, svāhā! Now to Aryaman the god, to Agni, have the girls sacrificed; may that god Aryaman release her from here, not from there, svāhā! Now to Varuṇa the god, to Agni, have the girls sacrificed; may that god Varuṇa release her from here, not from there, svāhā! Now to Pūṣan the god, to Agni, have the girls sacrificed; may that god Pūṣan release her from here, not from there, svāhā!’ The seventh is [the verse beginning] ‘O Prajāpati, not anyone other than you’ (prajāpate na tvat).
