And the rising [from childbed] takes place on the tenth night.

Having cooked a boiled sacrificial mess on that very birth-fire, and having sacrificed [to] the birthday, and [to] three lunar mansions together with their deities,

tanmadhye juhuyād yasmin jātaḥ syāt \4\

in the middle of them he should sacrifice to that under which he was born.

āyuṣṭe adya gīrbhirayamagnirvareṇyaḥ punaste prāṇa āyātu parā yakṣmaṃ suvāmi te āyurdā agne haviṣo juṣāṇo ghṛtapratīko ghṛtayoniredhi ghṛtaṃ pītvā madhu cāru gavyaṃ piteva putramabhirakṣatādimam tvaṃ soma mahe bhagamiti daśamīṃ sthālīpākasya hutvā brāhmaṇān svasti vācya nāmadheyaṃ prakāśaṃ kṛtvā \ evameva māsi māsi janmatithiṃ hutvordhvamā saṃvatsarāt \6\

With [the verses], 'Life to you today through songs, this Agni, the worthy one; may your breath return again; I drive away your consumption,' 'Agni, giver of life, enjoying the oblation, butter-faced, butter-wombed be you; having drunk the sweet, lovely butter from the cow, protect this [child] as a father his son,' and 'You, O Soma, great fortune,' having offered the tenth [oblation] of the boiled sacrificial mess, having caused the brahmins to recite blessings, and having made the name public—in this very manner month after month, having sacrificed [to] the birthday, up to one year;
