On this there is also [the following]: / 'At the honey-mixture and at Soma, at rites for the ancestors and for the gods: / only here may animals be slain, not elsewhere, so Manu said. / A preceptor, a father, and a friend—these three are not guests in the house; / whatever they prescribe, that he should do: thus the duty is ordained. / One should not consider as a guest one from the same village or one who has returned from a journey, / [nor] one who has approached a house where the wife or sacred fires are present. / There is no fasting when on a journey: the wife maintains the vow; / a son, a brother, a pupil, or the wife should offer the bali-offering. / The Agnihotra, the oxen, and a guest who has arrived at the proper time, / children, and the elders of the family burn [the house] down if dishonored. / The deities and ancestors constantly go to the householder / for their share, and the guest too: to them he ought to dispense. / Of one gathering ears of corn and sacrificing the Agnihotra, / the brāhmaṇa, departing unhonored, takes away all good deeds. / But it should be given even if only a water-jar; one should sacrifice even down to a piece of kindling; / down to a hymn or a section, the Brahman-sacrifice is prescribed. / He in whom these five great sacrifices proceed daily / is freed from all sins and is exalted on the back of heaven. / And those who perform this offering to All the Gods evening and morning / shall prosper through its aims, through life, through fame, and through offspring.'
