x. 47 B 45. I, his daughter, (would obtain) beauty and good fortune, if to me also were revealed formulas in which the Asvins shall be praised & by me.' rupavattam ca rn, rupavantam ca 1, rupatta caiva f, rupata caiva m k. - praduh MSS. and r, siddhah n.-yai stosyete bfkn, yau stosyete m', yaih stosyete . - mayasvinau bfrn (g), mamasvini kn. - The end of the varga is here marked by Q in bfk, not in m 1. & Owing to the dropping of visarga before st in the MSS. the reading is ambiguous, yai stosyete or yais tosyete; but the future being more appropriate than the present and the verb stu being constantly used with reference to deities, but never tus, I feel no doubt that stosyete is the form intended (cp. 46: stutau.. asvinau.. pritau). 10. Story of Ghosa ( concluded). B 46, 47. As she reffected thus, she saw the two hymns 'Your encircling' (yo vama pari-: x. 39, 40). The two divine ASvins being praised, were pleased. Entering her organ (bhaga) they made her ageless, free from disease, and beautiful (subhaga). They gave her a husband and the sage Suhastya as a son. 46. sukte dve yo vam pari m'n, suktakte dve yo vam pari fk, suktani cini ghosa 1, suktani cini yodha b. - bhagantaram m bfkrn(g), bhagantare n. 47. vijaragogam rn(g), vijaramroga k, vijararoga bf, vijararogan m', vija- raroga ° n.-subhagam m'rn, subhamas fk, sumbhramay b. - suhastyam ca sutam rn suhastyasva sutam f, suhastyam svasutam m', suhastyasutam b. - munim m'bfkr, muneh n, manoh rn (g). B 48. What the ' Nasatyas' by means of their two winged steeds (suparnabhyam) & gave to Ghosa, daughter of Kaksivat, is proclaimed by the (stanzas), ' Not of that' (na tasya: x. 40. 11) (and) - Of her that grows old at home' (amajurah: x. 39.3). r, - - dadatustat m'bfk, dadatustau . - yannasatyeti m br, yam nasatyeti f, ye nasatyeti kr 2. - kirtyate m'bfk, kirtite . - kaksivatyai 1, kaksivata fk, kaksivata mb. - na tasyamaksuro naya f, ne tasyamaksuro naya m', na tasyam maturo naya kr 2 r'17, na tasya- majaro maya b, tatha dadaturojasa r: this reading must be a conjecture of Mitra's; for according to his note (p. 197, note 5) his A MSS. (r±r 3 r 41°) do not contain the passage, and his three B MSS. (r 2 r 6 r 7) have the reading na tasyam maturo'naya . This is the only Brihaddevata passage in which I have found evidence of a reading in r which has no MS. authority. * This is probably meant to express that the Asvins granted Ghosa's prayer at once.
