Karnatakabhashabhushana 8.23

For the second-person singular, i, u, and e [are substituted], and generally elision [takes place].

In the senses of benediction, injunction, and the like, i, u, and e become substitutes for the second-person singular; and generally, in accordance with usage, elision also takes place:

piḍi,

jaḍi,

kaḍi;

kuḍu,

pāḍu,

māḍu,

poḍu;

kaḷe,

tege,

bage,

tage;

nil,

koḷ,

pēḻ,

māṇ.
