### [p1](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.p1)

Tirunūṟṟantāti / Avirōti Āḻvār

### [p2](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.p2)

\* A splendid antāti work that commences by praising Nēminātha, the Tīrthaṅkara of the Jaina faith enshrined in sacred Mayilai.

### [0](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.0)

O cloud of grace who, abhorring cruelty alone and abiding in Mayilāpuri, / pours down only dharma upon eternal living beings! / O dark-hued, radiant ruby with red lips! / Forgive the transgression of this humble servant who wandered outside, hiding for many days!

### [1](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.1)

For praising the virtues of him who gives the golden world in exchange for a flower, / who can grant mukti in exchange for a poem of refined words by poets, / who abides beneath the cool piṇḍi tree where green cuckoos flock together in song, / my crazed mind grew infatuated, as though trying to count the drops falling from a great cloud.

### [2](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.2)

So that his servants need not praise every person they meet, / claiming, 'Behold the rain cloud! Behold the mountain of generosity! Behold his shoulders!', / through my good fortune I beheld a kalpavṛkṣa beneath the shade of the piṇḍi tree, / bestowing a treasure never seen before in this ancient world.

### [3](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.3)

O kalpavṛkṣa! O ocean of mercy! Our mountain of ocean-like virtues! / O foe of deceit! Leaving behind the house-life of falsehood / which is like a bubble upon the expanse of water, / I have reached your noble feet; bear me along, like a lotus.

### [4](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.4)

Beneath the radiant golden parasols resembling two moons together that do not drift apart, / O Lord endowed with the five kalyāṇas! / What kind of tricksters are we, who, while holding onto you as true devotees saying 'We are your servants', / sever the attachment to karma and receive your sweet grace, O Sovereign?

### [5](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.5)

O Lord of the wheel of dharma that rises with grace! You bring \[beings\] across to the shore, / dispelling the darkness that falls upon the ocean of rebirth. / O virtuous one who has taken possession of me whose mind wanders in the delusion called the senses, / is it any wonder to you that you hold sway over all three worlds?

### [6](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.6)

Behold the lotus feet of him who possesses three lofty parasols, / cool like the radiant, full moon, which act like a sun-stone of fiery rays, / burning and casting away the heavy iron fetters forged by evil karma, / just as they do the fine golden fetters of puṇya!

### [7](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.7)

O lotus, what penance did you perform / to bear upon your head the crimson lotus-like feet of him / who bears upon his sacred chest the Śrī residing on the lotus, / beneath the three parasols that seem to proclaim: 'He is the sole King of all three worlds'?

### [8](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.8)

Along with the glory of the discus held in his braceleted hand, and along with the goddess with flower-like kuvaḷai eyes upon that lotus, / like the long-radiant sun emerging when the cloud enveloping the earth parts, / he whose threefold aura encompasses that place when karma departs / shines for his true devotees.

### [9](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.9)

How beautiful is the wisdom of this servant! To perform menial service in the temple / with high ramparts and gopuras bearing banners of golden tapas, / crowned immortals will crowd and stand everywhere, and heaven will bow down, / along with broad-shouldered women embracing Surendra of armlet-adorned shoulders.

### [10](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.10)

Will our Kevalin grant the boon of remaining idle / to all those unpierced wooden-eared, insatiable-bellied fools? / To none other than those who have become his servants with deceit-free hearts, / he expounds the supreme truth upon inquiry—a truth unheard even by thousand-eyed Indra!

### [11](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.11)

The moment kevala-jñāna arises, before Indra who renders service / to perform magnificent pūjā, the four classes of celestial beings of the three worlds / will advance to shade and surround our Protector of eight attributes, / sprouting forth like shoots.

### [12](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.12)

O Great Lord, it is enough if you dispel my ancient harsh karma, remove the three blemishes, / and afterwards bestow \[grace\], / provided that my heart can be brought under control like your grace, / contemplating nothing else except you, who cut off rebirth, and myself.

### [13](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.13)

What is gained is the glory of ruling the three worlds, rare \[to obtain\], / destroying falsehood, and contemplating the Lord; / yet fools do not consider what is beneficial and what is not beneficial for their distress, / falling upon the five sense objects like six-legged bees swarming upon tiny thorns.

### [14](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.14)

You do not reflect, though led through diverse wombs across many cosmic ages; / you are still not satisfied, O yearning heart! When Yama now / approaches you, tell me, who is your refuge? / Who else is fit except the One whose feet tread upon the lotus flower?

### [15](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.15)

None understands like the deluded; our \[Lord\], not a madman, gives prosperity / and guards the high. To those who attain Him, / He grants the realm of celestial beings along with the wish-granting trees of the earth, and then / is capable of giving that realm \[of liberation\]—such is the nature of the primal Bhaṭṭāraka.

### [16](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.16)

Those who do not renounce like serpents that shed their green slough and cast off venom, / taking on the form of the Lord whose feet rest on held flowers, / but claim those who create, preserve, and destroy the wide world are the Āpta, / wearing garments and ornaments, perform futile deeds while pretending to do tapas.

### [17](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.17)

You never realize that you are doing futile deeds! / You do not perform the tapas spoken by the sacred mouth of our Lord of the ford, / who bestows endless auspiciousness; you have not given dāna! / What are you doing in the meantime, O my heart, obeying whatever the senses say?

### [18](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.18)

O my heart, is there indeed room? Did not the golden Jinālaya / built in former times by Indra and other celestials, measuring twelve yojanas, / with its complete great gem pillars, three enduring ramparts, / and seven levels beginning with the court of pride, belong to our Puṅgava?

### [19](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.19)

Is it not to destroy the foes called evil karmas / that one praises the Hero bearing the white sword, the flawless lion of red eyes / seated on the great throne—the Ford-maker known as Puṅgava, Pūraṇa, / Buddha, Purātana, unadorned Śaṅkara, Cakrin, and Padmāsana?

### [20](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.20)

You bless those who are capable of praising your glory! / But those who, through the power of their mouths, offer barren praises and sing not of you, / you plunge into the great whirlpool-pit of suffering—unknown to us— / bound by diverse karmas, O Acyuta, who has discarded desire and wrath!

### [21](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.21)

Neither vowel nor consonant, yet the beginning and end of all letters; / containing all books of wisdom, serving as a mantra, / granting whatever is desired to everyone who praises it— / such is the good name of Caturmukha with three night-dispelling parasols, yearned for by true ascetics.

### [22](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.22)

O Digambara, whose glorious lotus feet grant that devotees / never return to this world, homage! Hear my plea: / As for those following petty paths who have no love for your grace, / is the solitary pillar at your sacred gate the noble mānastambha raised saying, 'Behold the foe of evil karma', O Lord?

### [23](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.23)

The heads of those base ones who do not bow in sincere devotion / to the fresh lotus feet of the Lord who revealed the five incomparable / astikāyas, resemble pots set apart in isolation / with seven apertures pierced above the pillar.

### [24](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.24)

He does not possess four heads; He bears not the five weapons; He did not reduce / the three cities to ashes with a sturdy bow; / He speaks no myriad illusions gathered beneath a tree called bodhi; / our Lord, our Maker, is the One who taught the three jewels to enduring souls.

### [25](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.25)

Have they not heard and known the nature of our Eye, / our Maker, who observes the three worlds in a single instant— / these mortals who, like intoxicated men, declare, / 'He is the sky, He is the wind, He is hot fire, He is the earth enveloped in vast waters, and He is everything else'?

### [26](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.26)

So that the ghoul of ancient darkness of pervasive karma, which did not allow me / to see anything else in the night of sorrowful rebirth, would flee, / He entered and dwelt within my heart along with the dense-blossomed piṇḍi tree upon the pure gold seat; / I shall trim that blazing lamp using the finger of true knowledge.

### [27](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.27)

Whirling like the wheel of a driven, sturdy chariot, / fearing that cruel karma which drags me back into ancient wombs, / I have embraced your true feet; henceforth I will not let you go! / You who conquered taking the wheel of dharma, O pure Sage, you have claimed me as your possession.

### [28](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.28)

If they have no love for the feet of the Lord who arrived upon that flower, / as though a Mount Mandara had arrived in the sky, / even if they are knowers of the Vedas, see, they are despicable outcasts in their caste! / And even those low outcasts, if they become loving devotees of that beautiful Lord, / are purer than the denizens of heaven.

### [29](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.29)

I do not say: “Grant me Siddhi, which is pure, possessing ancient bliss / of indescribable, manifold virtues!” / You who declared the astikāyas as they truly are, beginning with the soul: / grant me devotion that never departs from your feet; / that is ten times greater than attaining mukti itself!

### [30](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.30)

Rather than the simhāsana, the piṇḍi tree with long sprouts, the flower groves / encircled by vast ramparts and moats, the theatres, / and the golden temple where all the imperishable celestials throng, / the curved temple of the mind of this servant / has become delightful to our Mukta!

### [31](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.31)

Shall I call him the Mukta? Shall I call him the primal Lord? / Shall I call him the Father of the three worlds? Shall I call him the one who rules me? / Shall I call him the Master of my mind? Shall I call him the treasure of his devotees? / Shall I call him the Eternal One devoid of any enemy of karma— / the Sovereign of the shade of the piṇḍi tree, forever and ever?

### [32](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.32)

Though he is eternally filled with the four infinite qualities, / does he bestow grace according to rank, like those standing here? / If one can just stand and bow once with hands placed upon one’s head, / the desirable and wealthy realm of Purandara / becomes a mere backyard to ordinary folk like us.

### [33](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.33)

They will go along that narrow cow-path where a tiger lies— / the base path of false doctrines—and fall into the pit! / If you would enter liberation, the vast supreme path of imperishable abundance, / enter and proceed along the straight path spoken in the scripture / of our King, the Sovereign of the piṇḍi tree, in the twinkling of an eye!

### [34](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.34)

When that enemy hurled showers of mountains, arrows, and blazing fire, / turning that ocean of distress where none could enter into an ocean of flowers, / how well did you conquer the enemy of karma, so that the elephant of meditation could enter! / O Nirmala, who commanded the good path preventing this dog of a servant / from entering naraka, and took me as your own!

### [35](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.35)

Is it because they regarded the row-petaled lotus bearing your great flower-feet / as a fierce elephant, that to counter it, / the golden lady residing in the lotus gave her golden chest / to sit majestically upon, as if saying: “This tender flower is the valor that slew Māra of the sugarcane bow”?

### [36](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.36)

I do not seek, saying: “Bring before this servant wealth / such as gold, virtues, great gems, flower-patterned silks, and the like!” / O Lord of kevala-jñāna, who fully know these three worlds! / What I beg of my Lord is only that I may attain / that innate nature of mine which I possessed of old.

### [37](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.37)

Abandoning the trade of begging, we now possess the wealth / that protects these seven worlds! Come, O poets! / Know that the ancient dharma of the Lord of the piṇḍi tree is the wish-yielding cow / that pours forth all the heaps of wealth filling all the earth, / and all that you have not even imagined!

### [38](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.38)

Even when told: “Those who do not attain the good dharma of the Sovereign Acyuta, / who has ancient dharma alone as his weapon, and thereby dispel these four destinies, / will reach evil destinies and partake of unrighteousness,” / the ignorant still pursue base doctrines / out of infatuation for sensual pleasures.

### [39](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.39)

The words of the Lord under the Aśoka tree, who fully perceived and dispels our sorrows / that certain deities discovered out of delusion, are this: / The wicked-minded, performing sacrifices, eating meat, and enjoying / pleasures like fresh toddy, will enter a false mukti, / departing along with their physical bodies!

### [40](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.40)

Is there any straight path other than the great state / of singular, non-dual devotion to the Lord of the three parasols adorned with pearls, / for those who enter the city named Siddhi, / where, free from the afflictions of the mind such as hunger and disease, / those who enter never depart?

### [41](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.41)

Bearing the vows without lapse, as far as I am able, O Bestower of boons! / regarding all of your retinue as your divine form, / when fault befalls me, like a child who knows nothing / other than crying, what can this servant say / to you who know everything, except to bow to you?

### [42](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.42)

They do not speak what is beneficial to others; they do not devise a defense for themselves; / they are unable to renounce desire for hoarded wealth; they do not listen to the sacred dharma; / and even upon hearing it, they do not abide in the good tapas declared by our Victor / of the vow of non-killing—vile people / who are destined to dwell in naraka!

### [43](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.43)

O heart, you have found the place of refuge! For those who languish and die, / is the mother who bore and brought them forth their refuge, or indeed the father? / It is none other than the lotus feet, joined with two radiant suns, / of the one who possesses the threefold aura, a shining stronghold of splendour.

### [44](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.44)

Fly-whisks, conch, simhāsana, vast retinue, the fourfold army, / a radiant white parasol outshining the moon, beautiful banners, and exalted kings / becoming skeletons, subject to the rule of Kāma—even seeing this, / worshippers do not enter the shade of the kalpavṛkṣa rising upon the lotus!

### [45](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.45)

The sun is sinking, wealth is fleeting, kinsmen are like fine sand / that fails to hold together in rushing water, and youth is slipping / as the body decays—realizing they will not help in the end, I have reached you, / O virtuous ascetic who walked across the moving lotus blooms!

### [46](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.46)

To the one able to grant Siddhi to noble ascetics, who destroyed the twice-four karmas, / who learned to walk upright, stepping on fresh red lotuses, / who bestowed right vision upon me as I wandered like a blind man— / to him, what recompense can I make other than offering myself as his servant?

### [47](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.47)

Those petty mortals who, harboring an unyielding mind, / do not place faith in the true scriptures of Vāmana under the piṇḍi tree worshipped by gods— / unable to endure hundreds of thousands of slayings, beginning with fire, / they rise and fall, entering the seventh naraka of unceasing, endless agony.

### [48](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.48)

Seeing what in you do those who approach you draw near? / You have no throne, no parasol, no garment with fine folds wrought by gods, / no food of six tastes, no bright ornaments, no army to vanquish foes, / nor women with spear-like eyes—O Supreme One!

### [49](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.49)

Taking the saw of true contemplation, I shall sever the bond of karma that clings and will not let go, / so that this humble servant may escape and live; / I shall bow before the hero who crushed the power of him who wields the five flower-arrows, / the Knower who attained boons matching his own fame, the stainless Radiance!

### [50](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.50)

The moment I meditated upon the lotus feet of my Father upon the rain-cloud lotus, / before which all the heavens did not delay to bow down and sing praises / while fragrance rose aloft, all the bonds formed by evil karma / from past evil pariṇāma turned to ancient fine dust and flew away!

### [51](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.51)

The deep naraka where opposing disputants flock and enter in droves / stands shut against those who have attained your dharma; / O our Lord, free of the three blemishes beginning with longing, / the auspicious gate to the fair city of Siddhi stands forever open before your devotees!

### [52](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.52)

Abandon words of fury! Wear away resentments! With a compassionate heart / speak words of benevolence! Protect sweet life! At all times / listen to words of holy scripture! If you greatly desire bliss, / accept the words of vows uttered by ascetics! These are the holy words spoken by the Jina.

### [53](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.53)

Taking the honeyed words of the three kinds of fools, I reviled the Lord's true scripture; / taking the words and goals of deluded people, suffering distress for women / whose eyes are like dark water-lilies and whose rising voices drip honey, / like an animal, with dull intellect, I wasted precious time!

### [54](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.54)

As time passes, beauty departs; when the dark tresses / lose their blackness and moisture fades, live by clinging / unceasingly to the root of the stainless Lord's feet! Yet alas, / foolish men fall, caught in the net of women whose eyes outstrip spears.

### [55](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.55)

O Nirmala under the blooming piṇḍi tree, who explained in detail / liberation and the bondage of karmas along with the ultimate truth! / For those who bathe in the pure water of your flower-feet, celestial damsels will dance; / and those who sing your virtues, O Lord, all the three worlds will praise!

### [56](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.56)

Will I ever sing of wicked deities? Will I run / on diverse paths now that I have seen your singular path? / I, a hunter who did not contemplate you in the past, having sown your dharma / and harvested it to consume—O Wonder, will I ever go hunting precious lives again?

### [57](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.57)

When slaying death arrives, we shall not lie bewildered / with sinking mind, weeping in extreme grief like worldly strangers; / we have as companion the praised pair of feet of him who walked on lotuses, / and his ancient dharma as provision of boiled rice—we will not tire on the solitary path!

### [58](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.58)

Going on the right path, somehow tethered to the long, firm post / of your dharma, the lone elephant of my mind broke its bonds. / Lest it enter, destroy, and perish along with the swine of the five sensory organs and the five sense objects, / take note and bestow your grace, O Virtue-Bearer under the shade of the piṇḍi tree!

### [59](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.59)

Men of virtue, ascetic women, animals fierce as death, / the hooded serpent beings, the four classes of gods beginning with \[Bhavanavāsis\], along with their consorts, / and human gems of the wheel \[of cakravartins\]—all twelve great assemblies / approach the red lotus upon which \[the Lord\] mounts: behold it, O my dark head!

### [60](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.60)

Though seeing dark skin wrinkle or white hair sprout, they do not see the Lord / who gave the ratnatraya, beginning with \[right\] vision! / The deceitful see only the waves breaking upon the roaring ocean, the running waters perishing, / and within a moment, the body falling for kites to seize as prey.

### [61](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.61)

All the deceitful bore a heavy burden in their minds; all the treacherous, / fit only for multiple karmas, stood upon discordant paths. / O King of dharma who feels no passion for women with streaked, roving eyes / and soft curls of hair, those who are not deceitful men of trickery, but wise, have put on your guise!

### [62](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.62)

Rather than those ascetics who put on the guise, transgress the ordained rules, / recite the true scriptures, yet do not contemplate the truth, / those who, without cherishing the dharma of our Lord seated on the leaping simhāsana, / put on ignorance and dwell in the eight forms of pride, are threefold better.

### [63](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.63)

Though the beautiful lotus bearing sweet honey bears the fine pair of feet / of the Lord of perfect radiance encircled by a threefold aura, rising like the sun, / yet when it comes to approaching him, unlike the mind of this servant of his, / it is unable to say: 'Come, O Lord, place \[your feet\] upon my head!'

### [64](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.64)

Having entered the base paths of false gods possessed of sensory organs / mired in the five sense objects, which torment all three worlds / that mingle together—filth-laden bellies, vast narakas, earth, and heaven— / I have wandered in distress. O Rider of the lotus, tell me now: 'Fear not!'

### [65](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.65)

Why is it that the people of this earthly world believe the spoken words / of disputants with flawed doctrines, who are not the natural Lord? / O Puṅgava abiding within the golden rampart set with pure gems, / even after witnessing their falsehood, they still do not understand your dharma, but lie down in contention!

### [66](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.66)

We will not contend with anyone; we will not depart from the Jina's dharma. Even if we bear its name, / if we see the temples of cruel deities of crooked paths whose virtues are perverted, / we will not bow down, we will not praise them in our hearts, we will not associate with their human followers. / Across seven births, what obligation do we owe to that two-fold karma?

### [67](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.67)

You are the boundary of twofold karma; you are the one deed; / you are the dissolution of the body which is like a twisted thread touching fire; / you are the peerless sovereign wealth possessed by none; you are Caturmukha facing eight directions; / you are the flourishing piṇḍi tree, O Śaṅkara holding the wheel of grace!

### [68](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.68)

They fear no doubt; they do not falter before debilitating disease; / even if a wild elephant with eyes glaring like fire draws near, their bodies do not tremble; / they do not place their trust in the beauty of women of tender grace with breasts scented with sandal-paste; they do not fear approaching Yama— / those devotees at the feet of him whose lotus-feet rest upon the lotus.

### [69](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.69)

Because long ago I did not know the father of true Siddhas, / who abides within the golden rampart measuring twelve yojanas, / for how many countless lives have I become father and mother? / And now, how many fathers and mothers have been mine, I ponder!

### [70](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.70)

Possessing numbered garlands and sharp weapons, holding a woman on the left or right, / some are lords to the ignorant; / but those who possess the three eyes that are the precious jewels / spoken of by our Lord whose subtle garment is the great directions, are the lords to us upon this earth!

### [71](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.71)

Whether one calls him 'the Lord' (Īśa), or calls him 'the Sovereign' (Iṟaivaṉ), / or calls him 'the Radiant Lord of Threefold Splendour' (Muttēcaṉ), or calls him 'the True Tīrtha', / or calls him 'the Beloved of the Lady of Siddhi', / dwelling in the hearts of those of this wide earth, his names stand suited to those who speak them.

### [72](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.72)

He possesses a thousand and eight names; / he gloriously possesses a thousand radiant, fine virtues; / he is the dark raincloud that brings about good Siddhi, bestowing the three ratnas— / without composing poetry to him, why do you wander and beg from the ignorant, O learned ones?

### [73](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.73)

We know not rare Tamil; we have not heard Sanskrit; in the Āgama too
we are destitute; we are no sweet poets; we have not the baseness
of wandering about with the five senses as the mind desires; all our erudition
is only the importance \[of being called\] the servants of the Lord of the piṇḍi tree with shoots and blossoms.

### [74](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.74)

Because I did not realize before your qualities that dispelled the three blemishes,
how many bad rebirths into which I entered have passed away! In all that has gone,
all of that fault was the fault of this servant; now I have entered your service:
whatever fault may arrive, it is henceforth the fault of our Lord!

### [75](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.75)

None other than Vāmana of the piṇḍi tree, beneath which karma's impurity falls,
who cast off flaws, has the three umbrellas, abandoned wrath even if hated, cut, and killed,
and allowed his karma to wither while great dust swelled over all his sacred body,
he who renounced kinsfolk, clothed only in the directions, is the deity we worship!

### [76](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.76)

You search for another divinity! By the two hostile karmas
you will only waste away and never reach mukti! Save for reaching
the seventh state, declaring that the lotus feet of the five-faced Lord who destroyed the eightfold karma are the flower,
and being redeemed, you have no other means!

### [77](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.77)

You know not one thing; yet you have known everything! If those who resemble a hard wooden post
lacking any understanding come and bow down to you, to them
you grant knowledge that understands the good and show the reality; those who do not know
that we too \[are transformed\] thus, O our Lord, desire to become your equal!

### [78](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.78)

To make known with certainty to all that this Jina alone
is the auspicious Lord of the world, carpenters who are the Indras of the three worlds
fashioned and placed together the threefold parasol of the Lord,
spreading moonlight so as to cast shade over the three worlds.

### [79](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.79)

I declare one truth: all religious sects
only clamor and fret in ignorance! The ultimate essence attained,
mukti, is free of flaw; the Primal Lord is free of flaw; the Primal Lord is
the supreme Light having no origin or destruction whatsoever!

### [80](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.80)

The circle of radiance, celestial drum, divine sound, lion-supported
spreading circular seat, piṇḍi tree, white flywhisks, dense circular rain
of poured blossoms, and the triple parasol of fine gold: these are the eight splendors
that the celestials perform for him who destroys the sphere of suffering of us, his servants.

### [81](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.81)

O Tīrtha worshipped by Devendra, who declared, "This life is devoid of greatness!"
If we are blessed to praise your glory forever without forgetting,
what can liberation—standing open, without any death,
for those who go and reach it leaving domestic duties completely severed and without jeweled women—do for us?

### [82](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.82)

O karmas! What can you do to us? We are not deceivers
who flatter others and, calling their spouses gods, vainly perform this as dharma!
Behold the feet made by the Lord who possesses the three parasols
upon our heads!

### [83](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.83)

They eat not meat; they abide not in darkness; even if they could gain heaven, they consent not
to fragrant liquor; they know not killing or falsehood or theft; they waver not
before young peahens of women; limiting wealth, they protect the five; their desire cooled
toward the five sense objects—the servants of the Lord of the piṇḍi tree are our masters!

### [84](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.84)

The foremost God of the sovereign gods; the God whom celestial beings on fresh blossoms
in the sky revere; the God of great renown who abides on the tongue of true devotees;
setting him aside, O heart, whom else have you contemplated
within yourself all these days?

### [85](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.85)

Whether you contemplated or praised, O heart,
or performed good dharma even the size of a millet seed,
for the Lord of the piṇḍi tree, who never lets those who reached him fall into subsequent births of worshipping others,
is it hard to elevate you to his own equal within these days?

### [86](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.86)

Will one who eats the bitter, acutely lethal nux-vomica fruit give up the sweet fruit
after tasting it and knowing its flavor? If those who bestow love on those
who wander as mortals mixed with gods behold your splendor,
would they ever keep you away and part from you, O our Great Gem in the shade of the piṇḍi tree?

### [87](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.87)

Look upon the handsome Lord who does not adorn himself / with gemmed ornaments, spotless white cloth, or fragrant flowers! / O you who are like ghouls in this disease-ridden, putrid body, unable to leave lust for women! / He is the one who destroyed Kāma of the sweet arrows and taut, banded bow made of glistening flowering sugarcane.

### [88](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.88)

What he destroyed are the ghāti \[karmas\]; what he resolves are the aghāti \[karmas\]; / what he attained for the directions to know is kevala-jñāna; speaking \[it\] is absolute; / when he dissolved our attachment starting with women, and dissolved our worldly existence—when our sins cease, / all praise toward you ceases. Do you accept anyone once they become your servants?

### [89](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.89)

Even if \[afflictions\] fall upon them, they perform no tapas, nor do they share their food and eat; / kings may give \[punishment\] and kill them, yet they fear not doing improper deeds; / other gods do not bestow grace like the Kevalin, whose grace perishes not even when devotees' love perishes; / even if released, they do not let go. Are the deluded ones the authors of cruel karma?

### [90](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.90)

The six paths by which karma arrives, and the six ways to conquer them; / the way all members of false sects stand opposed; / the way the six substances incomprehensible to all the world abide; / like the ocean into which six rivers enter is our Pūraṇa, filled with excellent treatises.

### [91](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.91)

Like the winds resting upon waters holding all the worlds / equally within the full span of fourteen ropes, / for the Great One who has no equal, seated on the elevated lion-throne, / the celestials unfurled red lotuses to support his feet so that they touch not the earth.

### [92](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.92)

On earth, there are four hundred and fifty-eight; ten in the Bhavanapatis; / in the high Kalpotpanna heavens, seven crores, eight lakhs, and ninety thousand; / in the distinct realms of birth, seven thousand and ninety marks; and innumerable / are the excellent caityas of the noble Vyantaras and Jyotiṣkas.

### [93](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.93)

The caityas, the two divisions of the three worlds, the Tīrthaṅkaras / and the other five salutations to those of faultless attributes, together with their natural names, / the primary letter \[A\], the Arhat, and the letter Ma—holding the first five to the end as one, / I shall recite and contemplate, so that the dust of karma runs away and hides.

### [94](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.94)

Only the sovereign of the exalted piṇḍi tree, beneath whose shade radiant light shines, / bestows upon arrival the vibhūtis that one desires. / Following deceitful ones who trust true falsehood, and full of drunken joy / act as they please out of desire, what has befallen this precious soul to live in disgrace?

### [95](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.95)

White grey hair has arrived; youth has vanished; though having obtained a human body, / we sought nothing that was truly our own wealth; / we reached the Lord of the piṇḍi tree and were saved today; formerly, eating boiled rice and seeking the wealth of sweet-speaking women, / obtaining excellent sandalwood roots to serve as fuel, we burned \[away\].

### [96](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.96)

Being eaten by fire and going away, being dragged away, / or being eaten by dogs and many jackals and going away—other than this, the body does not endure; / when the messengers of Yama arrive, it is hard to escape this day, it cannot be conceived; before that occurs, / take hold of the dharma of the One seated on the throne borne by lions that eat no elephants!

### [97](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.97)

Just as a raincloud pours down in its season, within the two revolutions / during the three and two divisions of time on this earth, for the world to be saved, / except for the twenty-four Tīrthaṅkaras, none are Lords; that they are not good Lords, / the gods worshipped by firm fools will reveal truly and make clear.

### [98](https://indike.org/pramana/in.vernacular.tamil.late.antati.tirunurrantati~en-mt.98)

Beneath the threefold parasol of the ancient universe with its directions, which his sacred word clarifies, / the feet of our Lord of the ocean of holy grace which he bestows / are the tethering posts for the two robust legs that bind the frolicking arrow-like elephant / of our mind with its threefold ichor of three blemishes bathing in the waters of the five sense objects.

Joining the sacred feet of the Lord of the piṇḍi tree, which resemble two red, pollen-bearing blossoms / sweet-smelling within my melting heart, where fragrant substances \[abide\], / and adorning him with this beginningless work of sweet words as a splendid garland of flowers, / I, his servant, shall conquer harsh karma from the beginning, ahead of all.

When our father and Lord ascended there, with sages and Indras, / while the three worlds praised him with surpassing great love, / it was not because he could not find an elephant to mount, nor because he could not find a horse, / nor because my lowly mind was not obtained, that the gods held golden lotus flowers \[beneath his feet\].
