22.1

While the martial bugles of cuckoos / blow: "The Lord of Love has come! The Lord has come!", / while lightning-like maidens with great pearl necklaces / decorate each their chariot of hips, / while the massive, great full moon outshines as a white umbrella, / and steeds of flying parrots chatter playfully in front, / the god of desire and spring stroll in a chariot / through the southern Āriyanāṭu of the sacred Lord of Kuṟṟālam.

22.2

Ashamed before women whose locks resemble the dark storm clouds, / the dark cloud joined the ocean; / obtaining a mountain-bow that matches their breast-band-bound breasts, / with arrows of rain-showers joined to water, / mounting the long cloud-chariot to encircle the chariot of the sun, / the rainy season conquers in the southern Āriyanāṭu of the sacred Lord of Kuṟṟālam.

22.3

At the ghat where female buffaloes descend and gather, / the vāḷai fish, having drunk the milk they pour forth, / leaps onto the short, fragrant jackfruit tree; / the ripe jackfruit topples onto a plantain; / the plantain bends and strikes a fragrant screw-pine; / like hosts entertaining an arriving guest, / the screw-pine serves cooked rice and the plantain gives tender shoots / in the southern Āriyanāṭu of the Moon-crested Lord.

22.4

Thinking, "It mocked the speech of those fine women," / men bury sugarcane into the earth; / crowding close, it sprouts again, surpasses the shoulders of maiden women, / brings forth gleaming pearl-like blossoms, / and then surpasses their smiles; / in the season of parting, to conquer womanhood, / it rises as a bow for the sugarcane-bowed God of Love / in our country, the divine Āriyanāṭu!

22.5

A land that existed before the fit earth,
a land dear to all the gods,
a land that grew and rose high in every direction,
a land where even treason against Śiva is removed,
a land where the three-eyed Lord played,
a land sung by the ancient four Vedas,
the joyful Āryan land of the consort of Kuḻalvāymoḻi Ammai whose eyes are dark with kohl,
is our land.

22.6

A land holding five hundred sacrifices,
a land that has seen many crores of yugas,
a land where the lotus-born [Brahmā] arises,
a land praised by Kamalā and Vāṇī,
a land to which the great sage of sweet words journeyed,
a land where red-eyed Māl became Śiva,
the joyful Āryan land of Tirikūṭanāthar, consort of the slender vine,
is our land.

22.7

A land with rain three times a month,
a land with three harvests a year,
a land where Kuṟumpalā has the three Vedas,
a land where the three excellences flourish,
a land where the three times bring forth good,
a land circumambulated by the three worlds,
the Āryan land of Kuṟṟālanāthar, the Lord of three forms,
is our land.

22.8

What is seen departing is the sin of those who reach it;
what is seen crowding is red paddy amid sugarcane;
what is seen hanging is bunches of mango fruit;
what is seen spinning is the churning-stick in sweet curds;
what is seen swelling is the breasts of maidens;
what is seen bursting is the wild jasmine in the garden;
what is seen wailing is the auspicious kettledrum;
the Āryan land of the Lord is our land.

22.9

What is seen running is the flood of flower-strewn water;
what is seen shrinking is the mind of yogis;
what is seen wilting is the waist of lightning-slender maidens;
what is seen suffering is the conch in the pains of labour;
what is seen cast down is seed upon the soil;
what is seen crying out is clusters of tinkling bells;
what is seen sought after is good virtue and renown;
the southern Āryan land of the holy Lord of Kuṟṟālam [is our land].

The kuṟatti tells Vasantavalli the greatness of the holy site
Viruttam
Though Hari, Ayan, and the Vedas join to search daily, it stands hard to find;
its sweetness never cloys, my lady, when telling of the wealth of the sacred land where Tirikūṭa town abides!
On the slope where female elephants wander alongside tuskers, holding a bow in hand,
even a jackal attained Kailāsa with a hunter; listen as I tell the glory of the holy site of Tirikūṭa!
