### [10.13.2](https://indike.org/pramana/inf.isl.ar.rihla.ibn-battuta.10.13.2)

> The first is the one called by this name, Dihlī, which is the old city, built by the infidels; its conquest was in the year 584.

### [10.13.3](https://indike.org/pramana/inf.isl.ar.rihla.ibn-battuta.10.13.3)

> The second is called Sīrī (with i after the s and the r and a long ī between them), and is also called Dār al-Khilāfa; it is the one the Sultan gave to Ghiyāth al-Dīn, grandson of the ʿAbbāsid caliph al-Mustanṣir, when he came to him. Sultan ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn and his son Quṭb al-Dīn used to reside there; we shall mention them.

### [10.13.4](https://indike.org/pramana/inf.isl.ar.rihla.ibn-battuta.10.13.4)

> The third is called Tughluq Ābād, after its builder Sultan Tughluq, father of the Sultan of Hind to whom we came. The reason he built it was that one day he was standing before Sultan Quṭb al-Dīn and said to him, "O Khūnd ʿĀlam, a city ought to be built here." The Sultan said to him mockingly, "When you are sultan, build it." And it was God's decree that he became sultan, so he built it and named it after himself! The fourth is called Jahān Panāh and is reserved as the residence of Sultan Muḥammad Shāh, the present king of Hind to whom we came. It was he who built it. He had wanted to enclose these four cities within a single wall, and built part of it but abandoned building the rest because of the enormous cost of building it.
