ولما استولى القحط على بلاد الهند والسند واشتد الغلاء حتى بلغ من القمح إلى ستة دنانير ، أمر السلطان أن يعطي لجميع أهل دهلى نفقة ستة أشهر من المخزن بحساب رطل ونصف من أرطال المغرب لكل إنسان في اليوم صغيرا أو كبيرا حرا أو عبدا وخرج الفقهاء والقضاء يكتبون الأزمة بأهل الحارات، ويحضرون الناس ويعطى لكل واحد عولة ستة أشهر يقتات بها.

When famine took hold of the lands of Hind and Sind and prices rose so high that a maund of wheat reached six dinars, the Sultan ordered that all the people of Dihlī be given six months' provisions from the storehouse, at the rate of a pound and a half by the pounds of the Maghrib for every person per day, young or old, free or slave. The jurists and qāḍīs went out writing up registers of the people of the quarters, and they brought the people forward, and each one was given six months' provision to live on.
