وكان طوغان الفرغاني وأخوه من كبار أهل مدينة فرغانة فوفدا على السلطان فأحسن إليهما وأعطاهما عطاءا جزيلا، وأقاما عنده مدة، فلما طال مقامهما أراد الرجوع إلى بلادهما وحاولا الفرار، فوشى بهما أحد أصحابهما إلى السلطان فأمر بتوسيطهما فوسطا! وأعطى للذي وشى بهما جميع مالهما، وكذلك عادتهم بتلك البلاد إذا وشى أحد بأحد وثبت ما وشى به فقتل أعطى ماله

Ṭūghān al-Farghānī and his brother were among the leading people of the city of Farghāna. They came to the Sultan, who treated them well and gave them a generous gift, and they stayed with him for a while. When their stay grew long they wished to return to their country and tried to flee. One of their companions informed on them to the Sultan, who ordered them cut in two at the waist, and they were cut in two! He gave all their property to the man who had informed on them. Such is their custom in that country: when someone informs on another, and what he informed is proved and the man is killed, he is given his property.
