### [12.47.1](https://indike.org/pramana/inf.isl.ar.rihla.ibn-battuta.12.47.1)

> The son of the Malik al-Tujjār was a young man, still beardless. When ʿAyn al-Mulk's revolt took place, with his rising and his war against the Sultan, as we shall relate, he overpowered this son of the Malik al-Tujjār, who was among his followers under compulsion. When ʿAyn al-Mulk was defeated and he and his companions were seized, among them were the son of the Malik al-Tujjār and his brother-in-law, the son of Quṭb al-Mulk. He gave orders concerning them, and they were hung up by their hands on wooden beams, and he ordered the sons of the maliks to shoot arrows at them until they died! When they had died, the chamberlain Khwāja Amīr ʿAlī al-Tabrīzī said to the chief qāḍī Kamāl al-Dīn: "That young man did not deserve death." This reached the Sultan, who said: "Why did you not say this before he died?" He gave orders concerning him, and he was given two hundred lashes or thereabouts! He was imprisoned, and all his property was given to the commander of the executioners. On the day after that I saw him \[the commander\] wearing his clothes, with his cap on his head and riding his horse, so that I thought it was he! He remained in prison for months; then \[the Sultan\] released him and restored him to his former position. Then he became angry with him a second time and banished him to Khurāsān, and he settled in Herat. He wrote to him seeking his favour, and \[the Sultan\] wrote for him on the back of his letter: "Agar bāz āmadī bāz (āy)", meaning "If you have repented, come back." So he returned to him.
