He held mourning for the Sultan, proclaimed himself, and the people swore allegiance to him in the city of Badrakūt. News of him reached the Sultan, who sent his tutor Quṭlū Khān with great armies. He besieged him after fierce fighting in which multitudes of people perished. The siege pressed hard on the people of Badrakūt, which is strongly fortified, and Quṭlū Khān began to undermine it.
