> When we entered through the third gate, the great audience hall called Hazār Usṭūn, meaning "a thousand pillars", came into view; there the Sultan holds his public audience. At that the vizier made obeisance until his head nearly touched the ground, and we made obeisance by bowing and touching the ground with our fingers, our obeisance directed toward the Sultan's throne; all who were with us made obeisance. When we had finished the obeisance, the naqībs cried out in loud voices: "Bismillāh!" and we went out.
