> When we arrived there, the amīr of Kanbāya was Muqbil al-Tilinkī, who stands high in the Sultan's favour. In his company was Shaykh Zāda al-Iṣbahānī, his deputy in all his affairs. This shaykh had enormous wealth and was knowledgeable in the affairs of government; he kept sending money to his own country and scheming to escape. News of him reached the Sultan, and it was reported that he intended to flee, so \[the Sultan\] wrote to Muqbil to send him by the post. He was brought before the Sultan and placed under guard, and it is the Sultan's custom that whenever someone is placed under guard, he rarely escapes! But this shaykh came to an agreement with his guard on a sum of money to give him, and the two fled together. One trustworthy person told me that he saw him in the corner of a mosque in the city of Qalhāt, and that he afterwards reached his own country, recovered his wealth and was safe from what he had feared.
