### [13.60.1](https://indike.org/pramana/inf.isl.ar.rihla.ibn-battuta.13.60.1)

> One day Malik Muqbil entertained us at his house, and it so happened, by a rare coincidence, that the qāḍī of the city, who was blind in the right eye, sat opposite a sharīf from Baghdad who closely resembled him in appearance and in his one-eyedness, except that he was blind in the left eye! The sharīf began looking at the qāḍī and laughing, and the qāḍī rebuked him. He said to him, "Do not rebuke me, for I am better than you." He said, "How so?" He said, "Because you are blind in the right eye and I am blind in the left!" The amīr and those present laughed, and the qāḍī was embarrassed and could not answer him, because the sharīfs in the land of Hind are honoured with the very highest honour.

> Among the pious men of this city was al-Ḥājj Nāṣir, from the people of Diyār Bakr, who lived in one of the domed chambers of the congregational mosque. We visited him and ate of his food. It happened that when the qāḍī Jalāl entered the city of Kanbāya during his revolt, \[Nāṣir\] went to him, and it was reported to the Sultan that he had prayed for him; so he fled lest he be killed as al-Ḥaydarī was killed.

> Also among its pious men was the merchant Khwāja Isḥāq, who had a hospice where he fed those coming and going and spent on the poor and needy; yet for all this his wealth kept growing and increasing.

### [13.60.4](https://indike.org/pramana/inf.isl.ar.rihla.ibn-battuta.13.60.4)

> We travelled from this city, that is Kanbāya, to the town of Kāwī, which lies on a tidal inlet with ebb and flow and belongs to the territories of the infidel Rāy Jālansī, whom we shall mention. From there we travelled to the city of Qandahār — its name is spelt with a after q, n without vowel, a after the undotted d, then h, ā and r — a large city of the infidels on an inlet of the sea.
