Yūsuf b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. the caliph al-Mustanṣir bi-llāh al-ʿAbbāsī al-Baghdādī had come to Sultan ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn Ṭarmashīrīn, king of Mā warāʾ al-Nahr, who honoured him and gave him the hospice at the tomb of Qutham b. al-ʿAbbās (God be pleased with them both), and he lived there for some years. Then, when he heard of the Sultan's love for the ʿAbbāsids and his upholding of their cause, he wished to come to him, and sent two envoys to him, one his old companion Muḥammad b. Abī al-Sharafī al-Ḥarbāwī, and the other Muḥammad al-Hamadānī the Ṣūfī. They came to the Sultan. Nāṣir al-Dīn al-Tirmidhī, mentioned earlier, had met Ghiyāth al-Dīn in Baghdad, and the people of Baghdad had attested before him to the genuineness of his lineage, and he in turn attested to this before the Sultan.
