When the governors bring the gifts and the funds collected from the revenues of the provinces, they make vessels of gold and silver such as basins, ewers and the like, and they make pieces of gold and silver like bricks which they call khisht (with kasra on the dotted khāʾ, sukūn on the dotted shīn, and a dotted tāʾ). The farrāshes, who are the sultan's slaves, stand in a row with the gift in their hands, each of them holding one piece. Then the elephants are brought forward, if there are any in the gift, then the saddled and bridled horses, then the mules, then the camels carrying the money.
