He is Ghiyāth al-Dīn al-Dāmghānī. At the outset he was one of the horsemen of Malik Mujīr b. Abī al-Rajā, one of Sultan Muḥammad's servants; then he served the amīr Ḥājjī, son of al-Sayyid Sultan Jalāl al-Dīn, and then became king. Before that he was called Sirāj al-Dīn; when he came to power he took the name Ghiyāth al-Dīn. The land of al-Maʿbar had been under the rule of Sultan Muḥammad, king of Dihlī; then my father-in-law, the Sharīf Jalāl al-Dīn Aḥsan Shāh, rebelled there and reigned there five years. Then he was killed, and one of his amīrs came to power, namely ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn Udayjī—with u after the hamza, a after the undotted d, y (the last letter) without vowel, and i after the j. He reigned a year, then went out to raid the infidels, took much wealth and abundant booty from them, and returned to his land. He raided them again the following year, routed them and slaughtered a great number of them.

### [13.103.2](https://indike.org/pramana/inf.isl.ar.rihla.ibn-battuta~en-mt.13.103.2)

It happened on the day he slaughtered them that he lifted the helmet from his head to drink, and a stray arrow struck him, and he died on the spot. They then set up his son-in-law Quṭb al-Dīn, but they did not approve of his conduct and killed him after forty days. After him Sultan Ghiyāth al-Dīn came to power; he married the daughter of Sultan al-Sharīf Jalāl al-Dīn, whose sister I had married in Dihlī.
