13.113.1

When I set out to visit this shaykh, four of his companions met me two days' journey from where he lived. They told me that the shaykh had said to the faqīrs who were with him: "The traveller from the Maghrib has come to you; go out to meet him," and that they had come for that purpose at the shaykh's command. He had no knowledge of anything about me; it had simply been revealed to him.

13.113.2

I went with them to the shaykh and reached his hospice outside the cave; there is no habitation near it. The people of that country, Muslim and infidel alike, come to visit him, bringing gifts and presents, from which the faqīrs and visitors eat; as for the shaykh, he limits himself to a cow on whose milk he breaks his fast after ten days, as we have said. When I came in to him he rose to me, embraced me, and asked me about my country and my travels, and I told him. He said to me: "You are the traveller of the Arabs!" Those of his companions who were present said to him: "And of the Persians, our master!" He said: "And of the Persians. Treat him with honour." So they carried me to the hospice and entertained me for three days.
