It happened one night during our stay at their anchorage that a slave of the ship's owner, one of those who had visited this tribe, went ashore from the ship at night and made a rendezvous with the wife of one of their chiefs at a cave-like spot on the shore. Her husband learned of it and came with a group of his companions to the cave and found them there. The two were taken to their sultan, who ordered that the slave's testicles be cut off and that he be crucified! He ordered that the woman be had by the men until she died! Then the sultan came to the shore and apologised for what had happened, saying: "We cannot avoid carrying out our laws." And he gave the ship's owner a slave in place of the crucified slave.
