and a half. He pardoned ʿAyn al-Mulk, and also pardoned Nuṣrat Khān, the rebel in the land of Tilank, and put both of them in charge of a single office, the supervision of the Sultan's gardens; he gave them robes and horses, and assigned them a daily allowance of flour and meat! News came after that that one of Quṭlū Khān's followers, ʿAlī Shāh Kar — kar meaning 'the deaf' — had rebelled against the Sultan. He was brave, handsome and of good conduct. He seized Badrakūt and made it the city of his kingdom. Armies went out against him, and the Sultan ordered his teacher to go out and fight him. He went out with huge armies and besieged him in Badrakūt; its towers were undermined and his situation became desperate, so he asked for a guarantee of safety, and Quṭlū Khān granted it and sent him in fetters to the Sultan. The Sultan pardoned him and banished him to the city of Ghazna on the edge of Khurāsān. He stayed there for a while, then longed for his homeland and wished to return to it, for God had decreed his hour. He was seized in the land of Sind and brought to the Sultan, who said to him: "You have come only to stir up trouble a second time," and ordered him beheaded.
