He was one of the saints and had miracles, some of which I witnessed and have mentioned where his name occurs. I devoted myself to serving this shaykh and gave away what I had to the poor and needy! The shaykh would fast continuously for ten days, and sometimes twenty. I wanted to fast continuously too, but he forbade me and told me to be gentle with myself in worship, saying to me: "The one who drives too hard neither covers the ground nor spares his mount." I became aware of a sluggishness in myself on account of something that remained with me, so I gave up all I had, little and much, gave the clothes off my back to a poor man and put on his clothes.
